Reading the Book with a Class

  1. My sophomores use computers to create Mockingbird Press newspapers full of articles about incidents in the book. they include weather reports, ads from businesses, and "photos" of people and places in the town. try it, you'll love it.

  2. This is now my second year "teaching" this novel to eighth graders. After reading another "heavy" novel about prejudice (Elie Wiesel's Night), I thought the kids would have had enough serious literature. But naturally I was wrong! Last year, by the time the rape trial was the focus, I literally had to wrench the copies from the kids' hands in order to get them to stop reading ahead. Why can't every novel be so gripping?
